About Us

The UK is one of the richest countries in the world, yet there are four million children living in poverty, of which a staggering one million grow up in severe and persistent poverty. The situation is even worse in London, where 4 in 10 children live in poverty.

What we are and what we do

4in10 was created in response to this situation in London. 4in10 is:

4in10 aims to tackle the high levels of poverty in London through supporting the voluntary and community sector and Local Authorities to work as well as possible together, to develop and implement best practice projects and approaches, and to fulfil the duties and aims of the 2010 Child Poverty Act.

4in10 also campaigns specifically on some of the key issues that affect the capital’s 600,000 children currently living in poverty.

Our history

4in10 was originally launched by the End Child Poverty Coalition in 2008. In 2010, the project was handed over to Save the Children and received new funding to re-launch in February 2011. The old archived 4in10 website can be found here.

Who are we funded by?

4in10 is funded by Trust for London for 2 years, which covers our core programme and staff costs. We also welcome donations to support different elements of our work – please get in touch with us if you would like any further information about this.

Who is 4in10?

4in10 is made up of a huge number of organizations from across London. The project is run by a small team of staff and volunteers within Save the Children’s London programme.
