Exploring Housing Benefit - Is London Ready for the Caps?

Date Posted: 07 December 2011

Our 3rd Good Practice Workshop this week, organised with Z2K, brought together over 100 policymakers and practitioners to focus on practical solutions that can help all sectors prepare for and mitigate the negative consequences that will be affecting tens of thousands of families across London.

Westminster North MP Karen Buck, Kids Company Director Camilla Batmangelidh, and London Assembly member and Mayoral Candidate Jenny Jones, joined Terry Bamford of Westminster’s Safeguarding Children Board, Nigel Minto from London Councils and Joanna Kennedy and Romin Sutherland of Z2K to address the ‘Is London Ready?’ event. The day also launched Z2K’s new NextDoor Project, which is a dedicated project working to mitigate the effects of the Housing Benefit caps for private sector tenants in Westminster.

The event also attracted some media interest, on Dave Hill's blog, and in the Guardian Society.

A full report of this workshop, as well as a copy of the reading list, are available in our resource library .
